The State Library

Tues 20/8/13

I'm on my 2nd day of Chocolates & pralines level 4, so no pics till tomorrow on day 3. So, having taken on the mission of sharing Melbourne with you, I decided to take a trip into town to check out The State Library. Now, you may ask yourself why? This library is more than just books. Not only is it a beautiful & amazing display of architecture, with it's stone columns, marble staircases & stained glass windows & that incredible dome, but it also houses a great display of Victorian history, & one covering the history of books.

The display on Victorian history, titled "the changing face of Victoria", starts with the colonial settlement of Melbourne & follows with the gold fields, early rural life & the legend of Ned Kelly. The introduction of trams, the arrival of migrants & their contribution to the diversity of Melbourne & the establishment of Coles back in 1914 are other areas of interest in the display.
